hello,

i went to the first burnt out inverter, which has no damage in the area, and remember that the display worked before burning out four of the main transistors.

i got the same results!

resistor disconnected, (which is not burnt at all)

positive on a b was 1.8 and c 2.25

negative on a and b slowly up to OL and c .64


Same as the second unit, so if this is the problem, it is on both. or there is a different reason too many amps are overheating the resistor.

On the second unit, i shut it down in seconds where he first unit was on for minutes and totally burnt out. 



then on the burnt out unit, I removed the transistor by cutting off the three legs (i could not un-solder all three legs at same time)

so with the transistor out of the unit, and putting the test probes on the solder sockets, i got the same readings!

negative on a, then b just increases to 2.99 and OL in a little over a minute, A to c is same .64


we are not making much progress. Are you  sure  you don't want me to send back so you can figure out the glitch and make the units more reliable?

OK, here is the results:


before i disconnected the blackened overheated resistor, i measured 10 ohms across the resistor, and .5 to .6 on the diodes (with black lead on black end of little tiny diode), switched leads and both read 2.87 to 2.89.


then i un-soldered the resistor,  measured the same 10 ohms across the disconnected resistor and same .5 to .6 across the diode.  But when i reversed the test leads, (red lead to black end of diode) the diode meter slowly increased past 2.99 to OL.


With the resistor disconnected, the transistor reads slightly higher than reported below.


what does this tell us?

In your photo, are you indicating to test the little red/black resistor laying horizontal against the board, or the large vertical blue and green ones next to them?  then test the mosfet again with the bad resistor out ?

it is a re-purposed standard 36 volt forklift battery, that was fully charged to 41 volts.

with positive test lead on terminal  "a" in your photo, meter set to diode reads OL, then when I touch b, it reads 1.8v and 2.2v to c

with negative  on 'a', then to b is 2.4v and to c is .64

the totally burnt out unit reads very similar.

yes only that blue resistor was smoking and is burnt. no other smoke or damage noticed, but then it was only on for maybe 20 seconds total.  But the LED numbers never came on, or even blinked, so something in that system is the core problem.

except for the positive and negative battery cables, there was no other wiring connected.

that same blue resistor is good in the first unit, and the voltage lights worked in that unit, not the same point of failure.

I turned on the replacement inverter  and it immediately began to smoke.   I could not believe it. So disappointed.   Here is the process:

But the inverter ground (yellow/green) is left unhooked and floating.  ground terminal screw on case is not connected.
