the sprocket is 13.5" chain diameter, with pin at 6" radius. forgot how 
many teeth, but  Increase ratio is 3.75 to the driven sprocket on axle. 
(not quite right for the 16" smaller wheels but All of the drive parts 
except for the lower connecting rod bearing we had in the boneyard)


because the original drive gear had to be next to the axle driven gear, 
the horzontial relationship between the lever connection and the crank 
was set. but they could have ran the connecting rod vertically. In which 
case, the little arm would have made no difference.  but all the early 
drawings show it connecting to the pivot arm at the opposite side, 
giving the connecting rod a greater angle.  which probably drove the 
need for the little arm, but i can't figure out why.
